The Two Houses: Judah, Israel, And The Restoration Of The Whole Hebrew Nation

Section 5 of 16

Section 05

The Split: Israel/Ephraim And Judah

After Solomon, the kingdom fractures. The northern kingdom is commonly called
Israel or Ephraim. The southern kingdom is Judah, centered around Judah,
Benjamin, Jerusalem, and the Temple frame.

This is where terms must stay disciplined:

  • Israel/Yasharal can mean the whole house in covenant language.
  • Israel/Ephraim can mean the northern kingdom in the split-kingdom frame.
  • Judah can mean the southern kingdom and the public survivor after exile.
  • Judea/Judean/Jew belongs to the later public identity frame tied to Judah.

The study should not speak as if every use of "Israel" means the same thing.
It also should not speak as if "Jew" equals the entire Hebrew covenant house in
every context.
