Hosea 1: Jezreel, Lo-Ruhamah, Lo-Ammi, And The Reversal Of Judgment

Section 5 of 12

Section 05

Lo-Ruhamah: No Mercy And The Northern House

The second child is Lo-Ruhamah, understood in the study as "no mercy" or "no
compassion."

This sign aligns with the northern kingdom, Israel/Ephraim, being carried away
first. The biblical source lane is 2 Kings 17. The historical frame is the
Assyrian conquest of the northern kingdom, commonly dated around 722/721 BCE.

Important distinction:

When Hosea or the prophets use "Israel," context matters. Sometimes the word
points to the whole house. Sometimes, in the split-kingdom frame, it points to
the northern kingdom.

This child study should train the reader to ask: which context is operating
here?
